# Non-custodial Wallets

> moove.xyz never holds your money. Your keys stay on your device, funds settle straight to a wallet you control, and your recovery phrase is the only way back in.

moove.xyz never holds your money. Here is what that means for you, in plain English.

<Info>
  **Web and Moove App.** Every wallet you use with moove.xyz is non-custodial, whether you connected it on the web or created it in the Moove App.
</Info>

## What Does Non-custodial Mean?

A **custodial** service holds your money for you. You have a balance with them, you ask them to send it, and they decide whether to. An exchange account works this way. So does a bank.

A **non-custodial** wallet is one only you control. The private key — the secret that authorises spending — lives on your device and nowhere else. moove.xyz cannot move your funds, cannot freeze them, and cannot see the key.

<Note>
  You will see "self-custody" used elsewhere for the same idea. Non-custodial is the term we use.
</Note>

## What Does That Change About Using moove.xyz?

|                          | Custodial service             | moove.xyz                                 |
| ------------------------ | ----------------------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| Where your money sits | In their account | In your wallet, on-chain |
| Who can move it | Them, on your instruction | Only you |
| Getting paid | Credited to a balance | Settles to your wallet directly |
| Getting it out | Request a withdrawal | Nothing to withdraw — it is already yours |
| If the service goes away | Your funds are in their hands | Your funds are unaffected |

There is no Moove balance. When a payment lands, it lands in your wallet.

## What Are Your Two Routes In?

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Connect a wallet you already have">
    On the web, connect MetaMask, Phantom, Base, Trust, Solflare or Backpack. moove.xyz reads the address and asks you to sign a message to prove you own it.

    <Note>
      Signing a message is not a transaction. It costs nothing, moves nothing and cannot be replayed to spend your funds.
    </Note>

    Your existing wallet keeps its own recovery phrase, managed by whoever made it. moove.xyz never sees it.

  <Tab title="Create a Moove Wallet in the Moove App">
    The Moove App generates a wallet on your device and shows you a 12-word **recovery phrase**. That phrase is the wallet.

    Moove Wallet reaches all four network families — every EVM chain, Solana, Bitcoin and Tron.

## Your Recovery Phrase Is The Only Way Back

<Warning>
  Write your recovery phrase down and store it somewhere safe and offline.

  * It never leaves your device. moove.xyz cannot see it, cannot reset it and cannot recover it for you.
  * Anyone who has it has your funds.
  * Lose it and the wallet is gone permanently — there is no support ticket that fixes this.
</Warning>

The Moove App helps you get this right: it asks you to confirm specific words before it moves on, and when you copy the phrase to your clipboard it clears the clipboard shortly afterwards.

Moove Wallet uses standard derivation paths, so your phrase restores in any compatible wallet — you are never locked into us.

## What Does moove.xyz Hold?

To be precise about it, moove.xyz stores the things that make the product work and nothing that can move money:

* Your handle, username, bio, links and profile images.
* Which wallet addresses belong to your account, and which token each settles in.
* A record of transactions you made through moove.xyz.

If you go through [identity verification](/concepts/fiat-and-crypto-rails) to use Moove Ramp, a licensed payment partner handles and holds those details. That is the only part of moove.xyz where a regulated third party is involved, and it is required for the local-currency leg.
